Spitzer Cares is about getting the word out that food banks, who provide for food pantries serving the hungry, are in great need of all kinds of help.
It’s amazing how much the food banks can purchase for the money that is donated. $1 provides 4 meals. $5 provide 20 meals for a hungry family. You can donate to your local food bank right here on the SpitzerCares.org site.
With many groups having canned food drives, we thought it would be helpful to let you know what works well for the food banks when it comes to donations. This article was posted on Facebook by Food Inc. If you are heading up a food drive or simply participating in one, this is a great list of items that you can use as a guideline.
TOGETHER we can make a difference in the fight against hunger.

What a way to celebrate the holidays!!
On Friday, December 21, 2012, three finalists from the Spitzer Cares donation list gathered at the Cleveland Foodbank to see who would be the winner of the 2012 Chevy Cruze. Diane Dankovich of Canfield Ohio, Frank Raspey of Parma Ohio and Carla Pollock of Canfield Ohio all came with the hopes of grabbing the key that would unlock the prize.
The finalists were joined by Alison Spitzer who presented a check for $41,551.32 to the representatives of the four food banks with whom Spitzer Cares is affiliated: Anne Goodman of Cleveland Foodbank, Michelle Hinton of Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, Susan Bartosch of Second Harvest Foodbank of Northcentral Ohio and Becky Miller of Second Harvest Foodbank of the Mahoning Valley. This check represented all of the donations that were made by Spitzer employees and through Spitzer Cares in 2012. The donations are providing over 166,000 meals to those in need.
As people through northeast Ohio watched this exciting event on WKYC-TV3′s morning show “Live on Lakeside”, Alison Spitzer had each finalist pick a remote from the bucket and reporter Desiray contributed to the excitement by encouraging each finalist to push the button harder. The last remote was the winner which was in the hands of Frank Raspey of Parma Ohio. Frank was excited and stunned as he sat in his new 2012 Chevy Cruze.
Each of the finalists expressed their gratitude that Spitzer Cares has given them and many others the opportunity to donate to the food banks and help them become more aware of the hunger crisis in northern Ohio.
Donations can continue to be made to your local food bank through SpitzerCares.org. Our goal for 2013 is to provide 1,000,000 meals as there’s an ever increasing need to help our neighbors, friends and families within our communities. Join the campaign!!
‘Tis the season to give. Isn’t that what the winter holidays are all about? Giving?
Over this past year, we’ve had a wonderful response from giving people so that others may have an opportunity to provide for themselves and their families.
Now it’s Spitzer Cares time to give! We will be giving away a brand new Ohio built 2012 Chevrolet Cruze to one of our faithful food bank contributors.
WKYC-TV3 has joined in our excitement and is broadcasting the give-away live on Friday, December 21 during their “Live on Lakeside” show 11am-12:30pm from the Cleveland Foodbank. Three finalists will be chosen and notified on Friday, December 14 so they can be in Cleveland to see who will drive away in a brand new car just in time for the holiday.
Eventhough entries are no longer being received for this year’s give-away, HUNGER CONTINUES more than ever!!! We encourage you to continue to give to your local food bank through SpitzerCares.org to Help Fight Hunger NOW.
(Save your food bank receipt so you can enter next year’s campaign drawing)

Spitzer is proud to announce our partnership with the Akron-Canton, Cleveland, Lorain, and Mahoning Valley Foodbanks to help provide nutritious meals to families in need in your community!
You are an important part of the Spitzer family and we hope you will get involved to help us meet our goal of providing One Million Meals in 2012! This is an ongoing initiative that will include fundraising drives, special promotions, dealership food drives and Spitzer Associate volunteering with your local Foodbank.
It’s vitally important that we pull together to provide the very basic need of healthy, nutritious food to vulnerable families in our community. In our current economic climate, the needy are no longer far away – they are our friends and neighbors down the street. If we all give just a little, our contributions combined will have a tremendous impact and help ensure that no one in our community goes to sleep hungry.
Thank you for joining us on this journey and being a part of the Spitzer family.
Spitzer cares. We know you do too. Together we can take a big bite out of hunger in Northern Ohio.
